dear homies,
this part never gets updated....but our board (blog) sure does! check that out for the haps!

11/05/07

Seems like we update the website as the seasons change!

Fall is here once again, a time of change....and things have changed with the homeygrown crew. We've moved out from our space at 7th and Carleton, so we're going back to our roots. We started out traveling around, roaming the streets and dark alleyways with our product, and we're missing that wanderlust. We'll keep ya'll posted about what's coming up.

Fall is also a time to shed, so clean out that closet and shed that old summer style by attending our clothing swap!

Homeygrown's biannual clothing swap will be on Nov. 17 from 7-11PM...just enough time to trade out your old duds and get something new to wear out that night!

Just bring a bag of unwanted slightly used clothing, and leave with whatever you want!

Homeygrown will be providing munchies, silkscreening, and a beer and wine garden!

What could be better than free clothes, food, and refreshments?

06/30/07

Summertime...yippeee!! We'll be hittin' Telegraph, no doubt, but we're itchin to spread our seeds this summer. Next week, we'll take a trip to LaLa Land, so if you're from that area, check us out at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. We need some sun and fun!

Then, we're taking it home for the Ashby Flea Market in Berkeley. We shop there so much it's now time to hustle!

We've been posting pictures and such on our Board, so to see pics of Swap-o-Rama-Rama and other events, make sure to check that out.

Stay cool this summer, but remember to keep it hot!

5/03

Homeygrown has been doin it. The warmer weather and blooming flowers really feed our plant.feed.flourish mission. To read about it all in detail, check out our BOARD (click on BOARD at the top of the page). And please leave us a message on our box to the right...we wanna know who's out there alive and breathing with us!
So, to recap, March was a cool month.

Thank you to all the people that came to the Artiffact Fashion Show: Punla Family (Ley & Jelly), Huergas Family (Vince & Justin), Bej & Bri, Alex & Danielle, Thu Ha, Grace, and to all the other homies that showed some love.
Even though it was chilly, everyone made it hot!

As for the Swap...this time it was bigger and better! To read more about it and see photos, check out our BOARD. Highlights of the night include the blood rain sangria, concocted by none other than STORMZ, and the Fugly Fashion Show. Next time, expect us to pull out our sewing machines and screens to get that personalized recycled goody.

As for April:
Four Twomp at Soundwave was CRAZY!! So many good bands and even a cannibus cup for the connoisseurs. It keeps getting bigger and better.

Thanks to Malia Movement Company for the beautiful opportunity for us to vend at the Just Add Water performances. Utterly inspiring! We even got to meet the folks from meeshmeesh design. Just couldn't leave without getting a piece of their jewelry.

Last, Stormz & Artiffact made a trip out to Sin City and stopped at some shops. Peace to Thoroughbredz, Fruition, and Undefeated. Those spots definitely shine out in the desert. We're planning on shipping out some goodies to Throroughbredz, so you'll be able to catch some homeygrown if you go to Vegas.

Coming up are so many events, it's almost hard to keep track of! One super fabulous event, Swap-O-Rama-Rama, will be coming up in May. Helping others to create their (fashion) visions through re-use is so fulfilling, so we just HAD to sign up for it again. Please help to steer textile waste from the land fills to the closets.

3/7

Spring is almost here....so fast how the seasons change! We're just getting used to our space now, but that doesn't stop us from changing too! Every month, one of the homies will be featured in our shop, allowing them a chance to shine in their own light! This month, ARTIFFACT will be featured, and the space will change along with the seasons, so stay tuned for the unveiling, because if you haven't been to the shop yet, that will be the time! If you have been to the shop, that's the time to come back.

We're still opened on the weekends from 12-6, but if the weather is nice, we'll head over to Telegraph. We miss our home there! Don't worry, we'll try to have both open, but if you should cruise to the shop and we're not there, cruise over to the Ave.

Our space is small, but we make it work for us! Eventually, we want to find a HUGE space, something big enough for a skate ramp and a roller rink. We'll settle for smaller too....so if you hear of any spaces in the East Bay that homeygrown can infiltrate (ha ha) , holla back!

1/5/07

Many thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. From signing our mailing list, to chatting with us, to even supporting our artwear, Homeygrown wishes all of you many blessings.

Speaking of which, we have been even more blessed this time as we finally have a HOMEYGROWN STORE (and gallery and studio)! Many of you have met us on the streets of Telegraph Ave., or maybe even at an event, but now, we have a place to call “home”. We’re not giving up Telegraph, it’s just not the kind of weather for us this season. To read more, go to the homeygrown myspace page.

We’ve been working hard to get our spot ready for our grand opening weekend, scheduled for Martin Luther King Junior holiday weekend. We hope you can come and celebrate with us, for all of you have helped us grow!

In order to keep our creative juices flowing, we will not release our secret store location until the date nears.
If you are interested in attending, please email back for the store location. Our space is limited, and we want to make sure we can accommodate everyone who would like to come.

We are also offering a special promotion for the whole weekend: Come in wearing a Homeygrown item and receive 10% off of your purchase and a fresh picture took!

It's that holiday season again...time to give gifts, but don't forget about yourself now! Come see what homeygrown has for everyone in the family. New screen print designs from all the homies, including JADA! we'll be on Telegraph Ave. for our last day of the street fair Dec. 23....see what's FRESH!

we also dropped some goodies off at RPS and Brownie's Vintage, so peep our stuff out there if you can't fight the frigid air.

About our events: we wouldn't tell you about them if we didn't think you wouldn't like it. We told you plenty about ALTER:STATE...and if you didn't go, you sure MISSED OUT! Much love to Remade In America for putting that all together. Homeygrown loves deconstructin with the peoples! Check our events section to see photos from the event.

2006 was such a good year for buildin' and takin' apart....we met so many folks on the same tip as us (collab.network.create.self-sustain)....and we had many chances to spread the word of re:use through some of our events. we love doin' it live, especially if it means spreading what we do to the masses! thank you all for the opportunities.

so for 2007, keep on the lookout:

  • online shopping & custom ordering
  • homeygrown art show
  • more craft fairs and live deconstuction
  • items in more local shops
  • more homies!
  • fresher than fresh new designs
  • crazier reconstructions
  • re:release of the zine
  • and tons more

damn. we can't believe another year flew by again.

peace this holiday season and after that..

10/9

things have been busy for us here at homeygrown, and we'll only get busier.

first off, our SWAP NOT SHOP event went soooo well!! it was such a chill event, filled with yummy food, good vibes, and most important, free clothes!! We all left with bags full, and managed to keep piles of leftovers to donate...

keep posted for the next SWAP NOT SHOP this January. We will hold these events every season, so start stocking up!

but we're even more excited for Paparazzi Party Part II! we had HELLA fun last year, peep the photos to see what we did!

This year is supposed to be a beautiful day again, and we will have all of our beautiful homies with us. please join us...bring a camera, stunna shades, and a fun attitude. we'll shoot you, you'll shoot us, play our scavenger hunt game, and just chill! check the events section for more info on that.

the week after is a GODDESS FESTIVAL at Cafe Axe...if you haven't been there, make sure you come to this! the place is filled with such postive energy, and since we'll be celebrating the goddess in all of us, bring your energy too!

if you're a man (or god), don't worry, this isn't a festival ONLY for goddesses. it's a time to recognize and celebrate femininity, something that truly needed in this male-dominated society.

homeygrown will be vending and be featured in a fashion show, so come see what goddesses we will portray through fashion!

peace ya'll, thanks for all the love!

thanks to everyone that came out and supported us during our first week of the holiday faire! the weather was great for december and there were sooo many people out! hope to see more of you next weekend. We'll have hoodies and more new stuffs.

we had the chance to meet more friendly vendors....
(and encounter some pretty mean ones, too, right FLOSS?)

  • jenny- she makes bags out of old banners! just like how we love recycling, she loves it too. Check out her bags and you'll be amazed. They're super sturdy and would be great for taking to the grocery store instead of using plastic bags.
    REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!
  • Rickey- this guy is an old-school Telegraph 2nd Blocker. He bends and contorts wires into beautiful crazy shapes, creating earrings, mobiles, hair clips, and more. Talk to him (he has plenty to say) and he'll even make a custom piece for you. Don't forget to give his dog, annalise, some love too!
11/27

Birthday shout out to the Libras, including ROCKILL and Enzyme and Alyssa!!

THIS SUNDAY is our Paparazzi Party. (If it rains, we'll have a plan B location!) The location will be none other than Telegraph Avenue! We figured, the street is our shop, so it can be our photo shoot location as well!

If you also have supported us by purchasing some of our items, we encourage you to come to wear our items and come through to the photo shoot. We'll give a shopping discount to all folks that come back wearing an homeygrown item and get their photo taken!

We'll also have a scavenger hunt for all the interested folks.

PAPARAZZI HUNT: You play paparazzi!!
if you are interested in participating in the scavenger hunt, come through to our vending table before 1PM. Make sure you, or someone in your group, has a digital camera, since you will have to photo document the answers. All participants are guaranteed a fun time, and the winners will get a reward (not that you wouldn't only do it for kicks!). WHOO!!

9/22

last saturday at Cafe Axe was super! the venue is a capoiera center in the day, but the night of the benefit, it was turned into a place full of arts, entertainment, education, and good vibes. there were information tables about the 13 moon calendar and solar energy, and of course, homeygrown had it's own interactive creative stations! the mag-collab was successful for its debut; about 15 magnets were donated and a few of them were even sold (proceeds to charity of course!). The scrap design station did well with the children, as well as with some of the children-at-heart adults...thanks!! Please visit our current projects to get more information about those!

Golda Supernova rocked the house! just listen to some of the music, and you'll want to see them live, or at least get a CD.

stay tuned cuz we'll let you know about the official grand opening of Cafe Axe!

9/16

homeygrown is excited about the event going down this weekend. when it comes to consciousness...we're all for it.

this saturday is a benefit for a new cultural center in Oakland, Cafe Axe (ash-ay). Cafe Axe's vision is to provide a place for people to teach and learn about sustainabilty for the mind, body, soul, family, community, and environment. Come and be a part of this positive vision!

Homeygrown will have a booth set up, showcasing our artwear and recycled goods by our artists and answering questions about our processes of DIY clothing. We also have some exciting hands on activities for people that come through and visit:

Scrap Design:
Create your own design on t-shirt scraps with fabric markers (you do the sewing at home).

Mag-Collab:
This is a collaborative art effort for a good cause. Donate your art, quote, saying, song quote or whatever it is you feel and put it on a magnet that we provide. We will try to sell those magnets for $1 each, and all proceeds will go to Save the Children to benefit programs for the youth who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina.

New items include:
- recycled mini-notebooks by artiffact
- soda tab earrings by artiffact
- and MORE!!

Hope to see you stop by to support!

9/10

...Peace...

For those of you not attending Power to the Peaceful, come spread your power and peacefulness with US! Check us out on Telegraph this weekend!

As artists/designers/Americans/humans, we feel that we can help with the unfortunate fiasco that has happened in the South. Some of the artists at homeygrown are donating their handcrafted items to help with relief efforts. There will be select craft items under $5 in which full proceeds will go to benefit the Hurricane Katrina effort through Save the Children, our chosen charity. Examples of items include: recycled handmade notebooks, children’s art, magnets, small pillows, small art pieces, and more! Not only are you helping the many orphaned, displaced, and malnourished children affected by the disaster, but you will also receive a memento to remind you of your great efforts. Hope you can help!

8/24

wassup ya'll. Tiph just came back from the PHILIPPINES, so we'll be out on the streets this weekend with NEW ITEMS!! Rockill has been sewing up some nice stuff, and there are new screenprint designs from STORMZ, ARTIFFACT, and Tiph's 4-year-old daughter, JADA. Keep posted cuz we'll put up some photos of the new items, so you can see a sneak preview before this weekend.

good luck to all those who are entering a new fall semester. back to the books!

7/17

we will be on a hiatus until the end of August. Good news is you can see some of our items in person at the RPS store and you can still shop for a few items online. Bad news...well, there is none!

we apologize if any of the links are broken or lead to nowhere. we're not web gurus, but we're working on it. if you see anything you like and have any questions, don't hesitate to email us.

7/16

We had such a good day in the sun today! Thanks to all those that came out to Telegraph and supported us (don't forget to email us pictures!).

Rockill & Tiph stopped by the new RPS store/gallery to see what's up with putting some homeygrown items in there. Definitely a cool shop with unique DIY goodies. Check them out!
